The Nomad festival of Bhutan is held in Bumthang Dzongkhag (District) in central Bhutan.  Bumthang is approximately an eight hour drive from the capital city of Thimphu. The festival gives you the opportunity to witness Bhutanese highlanders dress with entire costume spun from yak hair, including the Brokpa’s black hat with five long fringes or the conical bamboo Layap’s headgear. Ladies can wear the wide, beautiful hand-woven aprons decorated with colorful pattern of flowers. They also demonstrate traditional Bhutanese village life including usage of ancient mill-stones for grinding maize, husking harvested rice and tilling fields with ox-drawn ploughs.
